A four-piece folk group from Dublin who are as punk in attitude as they are traditional in sound, Lankum are one of the most talked about bands to come out of Ireland in decades.
Combining distinctive four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, Russian accordion, fiddle and guitar, their repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties and street-songs, classic traveller ballads, traditional Irish and American dance tunes and their own original material.
The band’s debut album, Cold Old Fire, won universally glowing reviews, influenced by Irish legends such as Frank Harte, Planxty and The Dubliners and peppered with subtle traces of the group’s collective loves, from American old-timey music, ambient techno and psychedelic folk, to black metal, punk and rock n’ roll.
Lankum have completed a six week coast-to-coast tour of the United States, a completely sold out UK tour, played keynote sets at Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival and Sidmouth FolkWeek, picked up three nominations at the 2016 BBC Folk Awards and appeared on flagship BBC2 music show Later…with Jools Holland.
