There are artists who are independent in the music industry sense, and artists who are independent in mind, spirit and the sheer bloody-mindedness with which they’ve made something of themselves. Nell Bryden fits both descriptions, and has the stories to prove it.

Raised in a loft in Brooklyn to an artist father and classical soprano mother, Nell is a singer-songwriter of real distinction. Having been championed in her early days by Janice Long and Bob Harris, she has now secured a virtual residency on the BBC Radio 2 playlist and her rich country, jazz, blues and soul sound has led to tour invites from the likes KT Tunstall and Counting Crows to Chris Rea, Duane Eddy and even Gary Barlow.

Her 2012 single Sirens has been covered by Cher and a documentary of her second tour playing to US forces in Iraq was created by Nile Rodgers and filmmaker Susan Rockefeller while critical acclaim for Nell’s heartfelt songwriting continues a seemingly never-ending ascent.
