For two decades, much-loved Canadian folk rock band The Paperboys have been touring the world and lighting up stages with their free-wheeling blend of influences from Celtic and bluegrass to Mexican son jarocho and brass bands.

They’ve been called everything from Cajun slamgrass to worldbeat, received a Juno award (Canadian Grammy) and two further nominations, released nine albums and sold out venues across the globe without the aid of major labels or commercial radio play. It is word of mouth and independent print and radio that have fuelled the success of this band and made it possible for them to take musical chances and expand their creative horizons.

With a signature sound that incorporates explosive brass lines, Celtic fiddle and pennywhistle reels, English rock songs with strong pop influences, Spanish-language tunes and Afro-Latin grooves that reflect band leader Tom Landa’s Mexican heritage, they produce a kind of melting pot of rhythm and melody that echoes not only the diversity of the band’s home city, Vancouver, but also a larger vision of what modern Canadian roots music should sound like. It’s glorious, foot tapping, smile inducing stuff.
